CEV Challenger finals in Novi Sad’s “Strand” beach marked with exciting matches and spectacle for visitors

Thanks to Vip and Volleyball Federation of Serbia, so far the most prestigious beach volley tournament in our country has gathered elite players from 17 European countries in Novi Sad. From July 16 till 19 they have competed at two courts on Strand beach for points of CEV and FIVB ranking. Vip has also provided EUR12.000 prize fund for valuable prizes aimed for 24 teams that managed to qualify for the Main Draw.

Total of 31 teams from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerlandparticipated. Tournament winners are Latvian team Toms Smedins/Artis Caics, which won over second ranked Litva/Varga of Slovakia, in the final match in front of more than 1500 spectators, while Neshev/Kolev of Bulgaria won the third place.

Four host teams were able to test themselves against some of the best European players and three our teams managed to play in the Main Draw. Tatić/Radić from Novi Sad are our best ranked team, taking significant 13th place in the final score. They’ve therefore gained valuable experience for future competitions, because of why Vip will continue to invest in this sport with the clear aim of having our representatives at the 2012 Olympics in London.

As typical for the image of this Olympic sport, organizers have prepared ultimate all-day-long amusement for the visitors at the main court complex: prize winning games, cheerleaders’ performance and dynamic music. Red Bull also brought one of the world’s best sky divers, Swiss Uli Gegenschatz, who spectacularly landed at the main court from the airplane at 1000 m height.

CEV representatives have expressed their satisfaction and gave excellent marks to the organizers, Vip mobile and Volleyball Federation of Serbia, for the great job and presenting this tournament according to high European standards. Season continues with the rest of the tournaments of Vip Beach Masters, National Beach Volley Championship (Nis, August 7-9 and finals in Novi Sad, August 28-30), whilst we can expect some other important international competitions in Serbia as of next year already.
