New triumph of the Latvians on CEV Challenger

CEV Challenger, one of the most prestigious European tournaments in beach volleyball was finished in Novi Sad today. Title of the Champions of CEV Challenger tournament and the best among beach volleyball players, went to tandem Toms Smedins and Artis Caics from Latvia, the last year’s winner of the this tournament in Novi Sad. They won the gold trophy, medals and EUR 1’920 money prize, defeating Alen Pajenk and Nejc Zemljak from Slovenia in the final match, with a result 2:1 (16:21, 21:19, 16:14). Great Slovenians that enter the finals through qualification while winning over 7 top-seeded teams received silver and EUR 1’560 money prize. Bronze trophy, medals and EUR 1’200 premium were awarded to team Kaczmarek/Schneider from Germany.

The organizers of the tournament, Vip mobile and Volleyball Federation of Serbia are credited for great four-day sports spectacle, where the best European volleyball players participated. From July 21st -25th at Strand, they showed excellent skills in an exciting battle for valuable money prizes and points at the CEV and FIVB rank lists. During the tournament, 57 teams from 25 countries competed for the title of the best and EUR 12’000 total money prize fund: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine.

Four host teams at CEV Challenger also got a chance to play against the best European players and three of them managed to enter the Main Draw. Tešić and Mutapčija are our best ranked team that took a significant 9th place in the final score.

As typical for the image of this Olympic sport, organizers prepared ultimate entertainment for the visitors at the main court complex, at Novi Sad beach “Strand”. During breaks between matches, spectators had the opportunity to enjoy the latest music hits, beach dancers’ performance and prize winning games. Many public figures watched this tournament from exclusive VIP area. The final match of CEV Challenger was broadcasted live by the national TV (RTS), which is media sponsor of this prestigious sports event.

Beach volleyball season continues with the rest of Vip Beach Masters 2010 tournaments, from August 6 to 8 in Nis and from August 27 to 29 again in Novi Sad, when Serbia will get new male and female champions in beach volleyball.
